Walking Together at the Australian Grand Prix: A Morning of Culture, Connection, and Commitment

Equis was honoured to be invited by Kinaway Chamber of Commerce to attend the Wumindjika Welcome at the Australian Grand Prix. The morning began with a Welcome to Country, a traditional dance by Koorie Youth Will Shake Spear’s, and The Little Long Walk, led by Bunurong Land Council and The Long Walk Trust. We had the privilege of meeting Michael Long to discuss the incredible work of The Long Walk, which continues to inspire and advocate for First Nations people.

Equis was honoured to be invited by Kinaway Chamber of Commerce to attend the Wumindjika Welcome at the Australian Grand Prix.

The afternoon began with a Welcome to Country, a traditional dance by Koorie Youth Will Shake Spear’s, and The Little Long Walk, led by Bunurong Land Council and The Long Walk Trust. We had the privilege of meeting Michael Long to discuss the incredible work of The Long Walk, which continues to inspire and advocate for First Nations people through its educational programs in schools.

Aunty Pam closed the ceremony with an invitation to all attendees to join the Little Long Walk—a meaningful gesture of unity, demonstrating our shared commitment to walking alongside First Nations communities.

At the Circles of Connection activity, the traditional art of weaving, a practice of the Bunurong people was shared. More than just an art form, weaving embodies storytelling, knowledge-sharing, and deep connections between community, Country, and culture. Sitting together, listening, and creating woven pieces was a grounding and powerful experience that reminded us of the strength and continuity of First Nations traditions.

A huge thank you to Kinaway Chamber of Commerce, Bunurong Land Council, Koorie Youth Will Shake Spears, The Long Walk Trust, and Aunty Pam for sharing these moments of culture and reconciliation with us.
